Bryn Mawr Film Institute Announces Samuel Scott as Executive Director
Succeeding BMFI Founder and Executive Director Juliet Goodfriend, Mr. Scott has served as the organization’s Chair of the Board of Directors for the past seven years. During his 12-year tenure on the board, he has helped BMFI increase members, raised more than $10 million, and assisted in the building and renovation of multiple theaters. Mr. Scott previously held the role of President and CEO of The Johnson-March Corporation, a diversified manufacturing and consumer products company. His formal activities in the film industry began with his studies and work with the late James Card, founder and former curator of the world-renowned motion picture archive of the George Eastman House (now The Eastman Museum) in Rochester, New York. Mr. Scott serves on The Baldwin School and Beth David Reform Congregation Board of Trustees, having been President of both institutions. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in film studies from the University of Rochester.
In making the announcement, Ms. Goodfriend stated, “Sam has been an extremely valuable asset in helping us to get to where we are today. After reviewing a multitude of talented candidates, we realized that he would be the best choice to fill this position. He has both a strong business background as well as a history of work experience in film production and exhibition.”
“I am both humbled and thrilled that Juliet Goodfriend, as Founder, and the entire board of directors have placed their confidence in me to continue Juliet’s phenomenal success,” said Mr. Scott. “She and I have worked closely together for many years and she has taught me a great deal. I look forward to continuing our work together… I’m also looking forward to working with our highly talented and capable BMFI staff.”
“Congratulations to Bryn Mawr Film Institute on the appointment of Samuel Scott as Executive Director. Mr. Scott has tremendous passion for BMFI and has truly demonstrated his commitment to the Bryn Mawr community,” said ACG Vice President Wyona Lynch-McWhite. “Thank you to BMFI’s board and staff for all their hard work assisting ACG in finding a replacement for Founder and Executive Director Juliet Goodfriend. We are confident that Mr. Scott’s familiarity with the organization and dedication to its mission will help advance BMFI for years to come.”
