Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Names Theresa Colvin as Executive Director
Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF) has selected Theresa Colvin as Executive Director, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). She will begin her tenure on May 1, 2017.
For the past 16 years, Ms. Colvin served as Executive Director at Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), first joining the organization as the Program Director for Community Arts Development and Music before being appointed as Executive Director in 2001. Under her leadership, MSAC greatly expanded its flagship programs and spearheaded several new initiatives, including the Maryland Public Art program, the Maryland Traditions program, the Maryland Presenting and Touring program, and a statewide Arts & Entertainment District program. Several of these programs received awards for their support of the arts, including from the American Planning Association, the Maryland Office of Planning, and the Maryland Historical Trust. Prior to her tenure at MSAC, Ms. Colvin was the Deputy Director and Acting Executive Director of the Howard County Arts Council in Ellicott City, Maryland. Ms. Colvin currently serves as a board member of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and has previously served on numerous boards and panels, including the National Endowment for the Arts, Americans for the Arts, and Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from LaSalle University and a master’s degree in arts administration from Drexel University.
In making the announcement, MAAF Board of Directors Chair E. Scott Johnson said, “Theresa brings a unique combination of leadership experience, knowledge of the field, and deep personal commitment to the artists and arts organizations we serve. From her long tenure as Executive Director of the Maryland State Arts Council, Theresa is a proven leader, with a well-deserved reputation for integrity and commitment to excellence.”
“I look forward with enthusiasm to taking on the role of Executive Director of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation,” said Ms. Colvin. “With an outstanding staff and a dynamic board of directors, I am excited to build on the great work of my predecessor, Alan Cooper, and to continue to promote and expand access to the arts across the region.”
“Congratulations to the dynamic team at Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation and to Theresa Colvin on her appointment as Executive Director,” said ACG President Dr. Bruce D. Thibodeau. “ACG was thrilled to work with such an important regional arts organization where Ms. Colvin’s commitment and connections will be instrumental to MAAF as it advances access to and participation in the arts throughout the Mid Atlantic region and well beyond.”
