The Lensic Performing Arts Center Executive Search Joel Aalberts Executive Director

The Lensic Performing Arts Center (The Lensic) has selected Joel Aalberts as Executive Director, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). Only the second Executive Director in The Lensic’s history, Aalberts began his tenure on September 6, 2016.

Mr. Aalberts brings more than 22 years of experience at performing arts centers across the country to The Lensic. Most recently serving as the Executive Director of the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Center for the Arts in Richmond, Kentucky, he programmed a 45-show annual performance series, launched new community outreach and youth programs, and substantially increased membership numbers, operational efficiency, and revenues. In 2015 Mr. Aalberts was awarded the commission of Kentucky Colonel, the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky, recognizing individuals for their service and accomplishments on behalf of others. From 2009 to 2013, Mr. Aalberts was the Director of the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts in Bloomington, Illinois. During this time, he oversaw more than 500 events annually and programmed a robust artistic series. He also acted as the Bloomington Center’s Marketing and Communications Director from 2006 to 2009. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from University of Iowa.

In making the announcement, Chairman and Founding Director Nancy Zeckendorf said, “We couldn’t be more excited about Joel’s imminent arrival. Joel has very impressive leadership skills, along with outstanding arts administration and artistic programming experience. I think he’ll take what we have developed over our first 15 years and expand on it with creative and exciting new ideas.”

“I am thrilled and honored to be joining the Lensic team,” said Mr. Aalberts. “The Lensic is a perfect fit for my interests and experience and I am looking forward to helping grow and shape this important community resource through the next phase of its development.”

“Congratulations to Joel Aalberts on his appointment as Executive Director and to The Lensic as they embark upon an exciting new phase within the organization,” said ACG Vice President Elisabeth B. Galley. “Joel not only has the executive leadership experience to oversee a performing arts center of The Lensic’s caliber, but he also possesses the passion and personal characteristics necessary to enrich the Santa Fe community by engaging them with The Lensic and its programming.”
