Patron loyalty and engagement
Bill Melamed is a fundraising and marketing expert with more than 20 years of experience leading successful teams at numerous internationally renowned nonprofit organizations. His extensive background in enhancing revenue across earned and contributed sources has helped these organizations thrive and exceed goals and his proven track record in reorganizing staff teams has led to success in organizational development and increased capacity. Mr. Melamed has also worked closely with boards to strengthen relationships and foster a culture of partnership between staff and volunteer leadership.
Prior to joining ACG, Mr. Melamed served as Chief Marketing and Development Officer at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, where he created new fundraising event models, developed data-driven strategies for patron loyalty and engagement, and brought a broad organization-wide perspective to brand enhancement and audience awareness. Over the course of four years, annual fund giving, special event revenue, and single and subscription ticket sales increased dramatically. Under his leadership, the annual gala increased to more than $1 million. As Vice president of Development at amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, Mr. Melamed’s leadership resulted in significant increases in annual fund giving, direct mail, special event revenue, and corporate partnerships. He has also worked closely with nonprofit boards to develop plans to increase board giving and participation and to ensure they have the tools necessary to provide leadership and support to staff during challenging economic times.
“Bringing organizational leadership, volunteer boards, and staff into alignment regarding thoughtful strategies around audience engagement and brand enhancement is a critical part of the work we all must achieve for decisions to be made in a responsive manner to build a stronger support base moving forward.”
“It is important for cultural organizations to think holistically about patron loyalty and develop data-driven plans to deepen the relationship with audiences across multiple touchpoints. Building a base of audience advocates will provide solid footing to our sector and allow cultural organizations, universities, and government agencies to be proactive as they expand their community impact.”
Mr. Melamed began his career in fundraising as Associate Director of Finance for Senator John Kerry’s first campaign and as Executive Event Producer for AIDS Project Los Angeles. As a personal manager in Los Angeles, he strategically guided the careers of several award-winning actors and writers. During that time, Mr. Melamed provided volunteer leadership at various organizations including Liberty Hill Foundation, which recognized him with its Founders Award in 2002. Currently, he is an advisor to ActiveCause.com and serves on the board of the League of Chicago Theatres, Audience Architects, and AFP Chicago.
