Yakima Valley Museum Appoints Peter Stephen Arnold As Executive Director
The Yakima Valley Museum has selected Peter Stephen Arnold as Executive Director, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). He began his tenure on November 13, 2017.
For nearly 10 years, Mr. Arnold served as President & Chief Executive Officer at the Genesee County Village & Museum in Mumford, New York. During his time there, he was responsible for all aspects of site management, developing a strategic master plan to guide the museum’s future development, and creating new entrepreneurial programs and revenue producing strategies. He also successfully orchestrated fundraising activities and solicited the largest gift in the museum’s history. From 2001 to 2007, he was Director of Old World Wisconsin, the largest living-history museum in the Midwest, where he oversaw all operations and budgeting. Mr. Arnold has also held roles as Director of the Fort Myers Historical Museum, Director of the Burroughs Home and The Imaginarium Science Center, and Chief Executive Officer at Information Station Express, Inc./Touch Technologies, Inc., where he developed an interactive program for tourism information and tourism related sales merchandising for the State of Florida.
Mr. Arnold is a board member of the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance, Chairman of the Garden Route Tourism Marketing Association, and a member of the Outdoor History Museum Forum, Association of State and Local History, and American Alliance of Museums. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, he holds a bachelor of laws degree from the University of London and a master of arts degree in museum studies from the University of Leicester, England.
In making the announcement, Board Chairwoman Bertha Ortega said, “He had a lot of energy, and the committee unanimously thought of him very positively.” The search committee and board were greatly impressed by Mr. Arnold’s varied experience and believe his tech savvy and proven ability to raise funds will greatly benefit the Yakima Valley Museum. Mr. Arnold understood the programmatic need for the museum to better reflect its community. He also had a strong vision for the Yakima Valley Museum’s social media presence.
“ACG would like to congratulate Yakima Valley Museum on its newly appointed Executive Director,” said ACG Vice President Victor Gotesman. “Peter Arnold is an exceptional leader with the experience and skills needed to elevate the museum as a major cultural and educational resource and tourist destination. We wish both Mr. Arnold and the Yakima Valley Museum all the best as they enter into this exciting new phase.”
