Cultural Council of Palm Beach County (CCPBC) has selected David Lawrence as President and CEO, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). He began his tenure on August 20, 2018.
For nearly two decades Mr. Lawrence has held various roles at the Arts Council of Indianapolis, serving as president and CEO for the last nine years. In this role, he led a professional staff in the areas of marketing, grants, programs, services, fund development, public art, arts education, and advocacy efforts. With the board, he developed and implemented the organization’s strategic plan, citywide cultural tourism planning efforts, and new cultural investment strategies. He has led 46 for XLVI (46 murals painted throughout the city of Indianapolis for Super Bowl XLVI), Vibrant Corridors (murals painted on the walls of railroad and highway underpasses), and a number of nationally acclaimed, ground-breaking artist fellowship programs. Mr. Lawrence also partnered with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Mayor’s Office of Indianapolis, and the Superintendent’s Office of Indianapolis Public Schools to ensure that 100 percent of Indianapolis K through 8 students have equitable access to the creative arts through the Any Given Child program. His additional arts management experience includes work with Indianapolis Opera, Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, Clowes Memorial Hall, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Indiana University Auditorium, and the INB Broadway Series.
In addition to serving on the boards of Visit Indy and the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, Mr. Lawrence is an elected member of the Executive Committee of the United States Urban Arts Federation and a founding member of the national Emerging Leaders Council for Americans for the Arts. He is a frequent national grant panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts and served as a grant panelist for the Cultural Council in 2013. Mr. Lawrence holds a bachelor of arts in communication from DePauw University.
In making the announcement, Board of Directors Vice Chair and Search Committee Chair Bill Parmelee said, “The search committee was particularly impressed by Dave’s prior background with the arts and cultural organizations in Indianapolis, the leadership roles he held at the Arts Council, and the growth of the sector under his direction. Dave is also well respected by his peers at Americans for the Arts, Urban Arts Federation, and other national organizations. He brings a passion for arts and culture, a strong strategic perspective, and an infectious enthusiasm for the role he will be taking on with the Cultural Council.”
“I am honored to have been chosen to lead the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, which represents one of the largest cultural sectors in the nation,” said Mr. Lawrence. “The organization has a strong strategic plan and a legacy of impact. I’m excited to begin the next chapter of my arts career in ‘Florida’s Cultural Capital.’”
“It was a great pleasure working with the search committee at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County,” said ACG Vice President Wyona Lynch-McWhite. “ACG would like to congratulate David Lawrence on his appointment to this key role within the organization. We are confident that his leadership skills, arts management experience, and dedication to enhancing communities will be a valuable asset to the arts and culture industry in Palm Beach County.”
