KEXP has selected Ethan Raup as Chief Executive Officer, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). He began his tenure on June 27, 2022.
Raup brings over a decade’s rich experience in public and nonprofit sectors in operational, directorial, and managerial roles. He is being elevated from his role as Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Staff at KEXP, where he also supported the organization as General Manager, Broadcast. Raup has previously served the City of Seattle as Director, Policy and Operations where he played a role in guiding its $600 million operating budget and driving major policy initiatives in benefit of public and business interests. His additional service experience includes Director, Community Revitalization at Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation, Executive Director at Mt. Washington Community Development Corp., and Executive Director at Yakima Basin Storage Alliance.
An experienced leader and communicator committed to diversity and equity, Raup was elected to radio station KPTZ’s board of directors in 2022 and Ellensburg Community Radio’s board in 2021. Raup holds a bachelors of arts in history and political science from Brown University and a masters in philosophy in sociology of law from Cambridge University, Queen’s College.
In making the announcement, KEXP Board President Jill Singh said, “Each candidate brought unique perspectives and ideas, but none inspired us the way Ethan did. His knowledge of KEXP, its staff, listeners, and journey to be an anti-racist organization fully formed his vision for what KEXP might achieve in the future. He is the right leader for this moment, and we look forward to working collaboratively with him to further the mission of KEXP. “
“To me, everything we do comes back to music and our incredible DJs and staff,” said Rauf. “I am committed to leading by empowering and bringing out the best in those around me. Together, it’s our responsibility to keep bringing new life and new energy to our work - and to do so with intention and thoughtfulness and without turning our back on where we’ve been. I’m ready to work hard to translate our shared values into action and help the KEXP community generate even more positive impact in the lives of music lovers in Seattle and all around the world."
“Congratulations to the staff and board of KEXP on welcoming Ethan Raup as its newest Chief Executive Officer,” said ACG Vice President Shawn D. Ingram. “Raup is an avid steward of KEXP’s cultural values, and his commitment to community-building and artist development will both deepen and broaden the connection between KEXP and its community of music lovers.”
