Mr. Shiner also held the role of Senior Vice President, Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s in New York where he managed private sales, developed strategies for the contemporary art department, and developed client relationships with top tier collectors. Before his tenure at Sotheby’s, Mr. Shiner served as the Director of The Andy Warhol Museum for five years, generating more than $15 million in philanthropic giving and promoting Warhol’s art internationally through lectures and public outreach. Mr. Shiner’s additional leadership roles include The Milton Fine Curator of Art at The Andy Warhol Museum, Project Manager at the Alliance for the Arts in New York, and Director at The Hudson Project.

In addition to Mr. Shiner’s extensive leadership experience, he has curated and lectured at a multitude of locations, including the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Columbia University, and Taipei Cultural Center in New York. He also lends his skills to various boards including the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum, City of Asylum Pittsburgh, and Visual AIDS. Mr. Shiner holds a bachelor of philosophy degree from the University of Pittsburgh Honors College, a master of arts degree from Osaka University in Japan, and a master of arts degree from Yale University.

In making the announcement, Pioneer Works Chair and Director of Sciences Janna Levin said, “Pioneer Works has been a labor of love. We are building the world we want to live in and are moved and amazed by the community that has formed around a shared expression of such pure appreciation for the arts and sciences. Eric shares that vision and we’re excited for Pioneer Works to flourish with the expertise, good will, and leadership he brings.”

"I am thrilled to take on the role of Executive Director of Pioneer Works, one of the most dynamic models for the promotion of art and science in the world,” said Mr. Shiner. “What started off as a dream for artist Dustin Yellin to create a space for the promotion of critical thinking and creativity has now morphed into a fully functioning and dynamic nonprofit that promotes art, science, and a plethora of timely topics that empower and engage. The world-class team at Pioneer Works brings passion, commitment, and innovation in all that they do and I am very much looking forward to helping them and the board of directors further solidify our position as a 'thought school' of the future."

“Congratulations to everyone at Pioneer Works and to Mr. Shiner on his appointment as Executive Director,” said ACG Senior Vice President Wyona Lynch-McWhite. “We are confident that Mr. Shiner’s knowledge of arts management and his extensive experience with both leadership and curation on an international level will greatly benefit Pioneer Works as it strives to increase its global footprint and create a long-term vision for expansion.”
