Roundabout Theatre Company has selected Steven Showalter as Chief Administrative Officer, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). He will begin his tenure on June 5, 2023.

Showalter previously served as General Manager of the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University where he made vital contributions to its growth and sustainability. During his nine-year tenure, Showalter oversaw general management, finance, facilities, operations, and patron services departments, successfully negotiated key contracts, and collaborated with the Harvard University leadership on strategic and financial planning. Prior to this role, Showalter served as General Manager at The Public Theater, one of New York City’s largest performing arts institutions and one of the United States’ first nonprofit theaters. His negotiation skills were instrumental in securing Broadway transfer, co-productions, and many other types of contracts, while maintaining positive relationships with unions and other collaborators. Showalter also served as Associate General Manager & Company Manager at The Public. Showalter’s other notable professional experiences include Booking Agent, General Manager, and Tour Payroll Manager at Windwood Theatricals and Booking Agent at Mainstage.

In addition to his impressive slate of work experiences, Showalter is committed to maintaining meaningful dialogue with the theater community. He is a board member and treasurer of Theatre Forward and active representative at the League of Resident Theatres conferences. Showalter holds a bachelor of arts from DePauw University and a master of liberal arts in extension studies, with a focus in management, from Harvard University Extension School, where Showalter also earned graduate certificates.

“To be Chief Administrative Officer at Roundabout—with its storied history, critical acclaim, dedicated staff and committed board of directors—is a dream job for me. I am thrilled to be joining the team,” said Showalter.

“Congratulations to the board and staff members on their thoughtful selection of Steven as Roundabout Theatre’s new Chief Administrative Officer,” said ACG Vice President Adam Davis. “As a key member of the leadership team, Steven will strengthen Roundabout’s dedication to the New York City community, and we are excited to witness the transformative impact of his leadership.”
