Silkroad has selected Kathy Fletcher as Executive Director, following an international executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). She began her tenure on November 4, 2019.
An arts management leader and social justice advocate with a natural talent for developing human connections, Ms. Fletcher brings fundraising and communications expertise from the government, nonprofit, and private sectors. Most recently, she served as the Director of Creative Leadership Initiatives at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In this role, she advocated for the advancement of social impact programs through fundraising and artist partnerships, including Any Given Child, Sound Health, Millennium stage, and all REACH programming.
For eight years she served as National Director of Turnaround Arts, a signature arts education program of the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities under the Obama administration. Currently overseen by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts, the program uses arts education as a reform tool to help turn around America’s high poverty, traditionally failing schools. Flourishing under her leadership, she increased the budget to $2.6 million, brought the program to 86 schools across the country, and managed partnerships with 70 high-profile American artists.
In 2008 Ms. Fletcher founded the Fletcher Group, serving as President until 2012. In this role, she provided consulting services for clients such as The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Her additional leadership roles include Senior Vice President of Campaigns at Public Interest Productions and Director of The National Fair Housing Alliance, both located in Washington, DC. Ms. Fletcher holds a bachelor of arts degree in education and human services from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
In making the announcement, Silkroad Board President Golnar Khosrowshahi said, “I am so excited that Silkroad has reached the position today to attract such extraordinary talent as Kathy. As a board, we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Kathy and empower her to lead Silkroad into its next chapter.”
“I could not be more honored to join Silkroad, which for two decades has led the way in overcoming barriers of all kinds through music and culture,” said Ms. Fletcher. “I’ve already worked closely and happily with Silkroad artists through Turnaround Arts, so joining the Silkroad family feels very much like I’m coming home.”
“ACG congratulates Silkroad on the appointment of Kathy Fletcher as Executive Director,” said ACG President Dr. Bruce D. Thibodeau. “Ms. Fletcher’s outstanding leadership skills are complemented by her experience in creating lasting artistic relationships embedded in social impact programs and in uncovering new opportunities for educational advancement. We are confident that she will bring a vision and strategic leadership to Silkroad that will enhance the organization and the global communities it serves.”
