The Public Theater of San Antonio Announces Claudia de Vasco as Executive Artistic Director

The Public Theater of San Antonio has selected Claudia de Vasco as Executive Artistic Director, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). She began her tenure on September 13, 2021.

Most recently, Ms. de Vasco served as the Head of Cultural Integration for BrickHouse Talent Agency in Los Angeles. While there, she identified hurdles for diversity within Hollywood and devised practical solutions to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in the industry and agency. Ms. de Vasco also designed and launched a ground-breaking agency division by ideating with other entertainment industry changemakers. Her collaboration with industry groups and leaders produced informative events. Ms. de Vasco worked to develop curriculum to train the first group of Culture and Inclusivity Coordinators (CIC), a new position that she helped to create. She has also held roles as a Merger & Integration Consultant for Arts for LA, Managing Director for Emerging Arts Leaders, Artistic Producing Director at Chalk Repertory Theatre, and is a member of the Kilroys, taking action on gender parity in produced plays in the American theater.

A native of Houston and a first generation Mexican American, Ms. de Vasco has been performing since the age of four. Singing, dancing, acting, and playing instruments led her to study at the renowned Houston School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Antaeus Academy, and The Groundlings. In addition to performing in Minneapolis and throughout California with companies such as Mixed Blood, San Diego Repertory Theatre, Independent Shakespeare Co., Shock Pulse, and Shakespeare Center LA, she has made numerous film and television appearances on networks such as NBC, Amazon, Netflix/WB, and The CW. A frequent host, moderator, and public speaker for events, Ms. de Vasco also coaches acting, accents, speech, and Shakespeare to both adults and children. She earned a bachelor of fine arts in acting from the prestigious University of Minnesota / Guthrie Theatre.

In making the announcement, Board Chair Dennis Karbach said, “After an extensive national search, we are very pleased that the search firm found Claudia. Her background, experience, and vision will fit very well as The Public moves past the pandemic and the exciting times ahead for theater in San Antonio.”
