Trinity Repertory Names Kate Liberman as Executive Director

Kate Liberman Executive Director Trinity Rep

Trinity Repertory Company (Trinity Rep) has selected Kate Liberman as Executive Director, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). She will begin her tenure on September 6, 2022.

Liberman is joining Trinity Rep from Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival in New York, where she has worked since 2015 and has been serving as the managing director. She brings with her a history of fiscal acumen, organizational excellence, and community engagement. At the helm of the 35-year-old company, Liberman partook in planning a permanent facility on 100 acres that would serve as the company’s first home. Liberman has served on the 2021 New York State Council for the Arts Grants Panel and Theatre Communications Group committees and panels. Her extensive arts leadership experience is guided by her focus and dedication to belonging, inclusion, diversity, equity, and anti-racism.

She previously served as general manager at The Laguna Playhouse, associate managing director at Yale Repertory Theatre, managing director of Yale Summer Cabaret, managing director fellow at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and associate manager of development at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Liberman holds a bachelor of arts degree in English and theatre from the University of Pennsylvania, a master of business administration from the Yale School of Management, and a master of fine arts in theater management from the Yale School of Drama.

In making the announcement , Search Committee Chair and Vice Chair of Trinity Rep’s Board of Trustees Kibbe Reilly said, “From the beginning of the search process, we made a commitment to select the best person for the Executive Director position and that is exactly what happened. Kate Liberman is a rising star in this field and we're fortunate to have her join our excellent team at Trinity Rep. I look forward to her leadership.”

“It’s become a personal passion and commitment of mine to make sure we do better,” said Liberman. “Having watched Trinity Rep in everything they’ve been doing under Curt Columbus’s leadership and artistic vision, the work Curt has led with regards to an eye for equity, diversity inclusion, and how Trinity was a real leader in the industry in responding to ‘We See You White American Theater.’ It was very powerful. I was excited to learn more, to come home, and be a part of what’s next for this extraordinary company in Providence.”

“Congratulations to Trinity Rep on welcoming Kate Liberman as Executive Director,” said ACG Senior Vice President Wyona Lynch-McWhite. “Kate is a people-, purpose-, and goal-focused individual with a strong sense of community in her vision. The wealth of knowledge and kindness she brings will provide Trinity Rep with great support for the coming years.”
