The Guthrie Theater (Guthrie) has selected Joel Krause as Director of Production, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). He began his tenure on November 21, 2022.
Krause has been involved with the Guthrie since 2019, first as Production Manager, and then as Interim Production Manager. Collaborating closely with the creative and production teams, Krause oversaw the entire production process from initial concept to show closing and load-out for productions presented at the Wurtele Thrust, McGuire Proscenium, and Dowling Studio theaters. Previously, Krause served as Director of Production at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater where he managed the production seasons for up to 10 shows annually across three theaters. In this role, he developed and implemented production schedules and budgets and maintained effective communication with directors and designers. Krause’s other notable production experiences include serving as Interim Production Manager at Atlantic Theater Company; Production Manager at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University; and Associate Production Manager at Roundabout Theatre Company.
Krause received a bachelor of arts in theatre arts from the University of North Dakota and a master of fine arts in production technology and management from Carnegie Mellon University.
“I'm delighted to join the Guthrie's incredible team of technicians, artisans, and administrators,” said Joel Krause. “As a Minnesota native, student matinees at the Guthrie were my first exposure to professional theater, and the catalyst to what's proven to be an exciting and fulfilling career. I'm honored to be part of an organization that has meant so much to me for so many years.”
“Congratulations to the team at the Guthrie on welcoming Joel as Director of Production,” said ACG Vice President Jenna Deja. “Joel’s compassion and dedication to quality theatrical production will enhance the great work of the Guthrie and contribute to its mission to cultivate the next generation of theater artists.”
