The Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona (CCP) has selected Todd Tubutis as Director, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). He began his tenure on July 17, 2023.

An accomplished museum leader, fluent in innovative exhibition development and curatorial practices, Tubutis brings to the organization two decades of nonprofit experience in organizational management, strategic planning, fundraising, and institutional outreach. Prior to joining CCP, Tubutis served as Director at the Art Museum of West Virginia University, where he strategically grew the collection with 525 unique objects through gifts and purchases, establishing an acquisition fund for a collection of works by BIPOC artists. He established an institutional partnership with Art Bridges, securing major funds in support for pandemic outreach activities. Tubutis also cultivated new programmatic collaborations across campus with WVU’s LGBTQ+ Center, Honors College, Humanities Center, Native American Studies, and Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Previously, Tubutis held roles as Associate Director at the University of Nebraska’s Sheldon Museum of Art and as Executive Director at Blue Sky Gallery, the Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts in Portland, Oregon. Tubutis has served as state representative for Association of Academic Art Museums & Galleries and as inaugural board secretary for Yucca Valley Material Lab. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology and museum studies from Beloit College and a master of arts degree in anthropology from University of British Columbia.

In making the announcement, Vice President for the Arts at the University of Arizona Andy Schulz said, “I am delighted to introduce and welcome Todd Tubutis as the next director of the Center for Creative Photography. Todd comes to us with a wealth of experience working at, and leading, cultural institutions located within flagship public research universities. I look forward to working closely with Todd and the entire CCP staff during this exciting next phase in the center’s history.”

“I am thrilled to be joining the talented staff of the Center for Creative Photography as its next director,” said Tubutis. “It is a true honor to be asked to lead such an exceptional institution – to steward its history and chart a dynamic and inclusive course for its future – especially as CCP prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025. CCP is singular in its commitment to the medium and unique in its importance as a museum, archive, and interdisciplinary hub at the University of Arizona. I look forward to collaborating across campus and with our Arizona Arts partners to continue integrating the Center into the student experience. And I can’t wait to get to know Tucson and the many dedicated supporters of CCP who champion its ongoing success.”

“ACG was honored to work with the search committee and the staff of the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona on this search,” said ACG Senior Vice President Wyona Lynch-McWhite. “We extend our congratulations to Todd on his appointment as CCP’s new Director. Todd is an innovative leader, with a wealth of expertise in modern photography and a unique appreciation for the Center’s critical role as a museum and an archive. His expertise and vision will serve CCP as it continues its path of institutional excellence.”
