Soho Rep has selected Caleb Hammons and Eric Ting as Directors, following an executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG). They will begin their tenure on September 5, 2023.

Ting and Hammons will join the Lower Manhattan theater in a three-way Co-Directorship, a shared leadership model intended to redistribute power, increase collaboration, and foster divergent perspectives. They will partner with current Director Cynthia Flowers.

Ting comes to the theater having served as Artistic Director at the California Shakespeare Theater, steering the organization through a dynamic evolution centered on community service and arts practice. He made his New York City directorial debut with the Jackie Sibblies Drury play “We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as Southwest Africa, From the German Südwestafrika, Between the Years 1884-1915” at Soho Rep in 2012. Ting has also previously held the roles of Artistic Associate and Associate Artistic Director at Long Wharf Theatre.

Hammons, a creative producer and curator, most recently served at Fisher Center at Bard in 2013 and has held progressively senior positions, including Producer, Senior Producer, and Director of Artistic Planning and Producing. His notable accomplishments include the development and premiere of Daniel Fish’s Tony Award-winning production of Oklahoma! Hammons plans to continue his career-long focus on sustainable and humane producing practices, including pay equity.

“The spirit of the theater centers risk and experimentation,” said Ting. “There’s a boldness to the work and a kind of artistic rigor that I’ve never found anywhere else.”

“After working at a larger organization outside the city, I knew I wanted to return to my roots in the smaller, scrappier and more experimental realm of theater.” said Hammons.

“ACG approached the search with Soho Rep with a deep appreciative inquiry for the organization, its people, and its needs,” said Dámaso Rodríguez. “We extensively engaged and presented a rich diversity of candidates from the theater field, Broadway, and other creative industries, and collaborated with the search committee to ultimately select Eric Ting and Caleb Hammons as the new Director (Curation and Artistic Programs) and Director (Artistic Producing) respectively. Eric and Caleb are both experienced, values-driven leader whose expertise will richly complement the legacy and future of Soho Rep.”
