BOSTON — Arts Consulting Group (ACG), the leading provider of hands-on management consulting services to the arts and culture industry, today announced that Geoff Chang has joined the firm as Vice President to expand the leadership transitions and capacity building practice areas. Based bicoastally in San Diego and New York, he brings a rich background of experience within the arts and culture industries, specifically within the dance sector.

Mr. Chang most recently served as General Manager at the Mark Morris Dance Group in Brooklyn, New York, where he produced performances at many of the world’s leading cultural venues and arts festivals. During his tenure, he implemented a process of licensing works to national and international ballet companies, increasing earned income and broadening audiences worldwide. Growing the company’s portfolio of individual donors and successfully obtaining grants from foundations and corporations, Mr. Chang secured significant contributed income as part of a $25 million fundraising campaign, raising money for capital, artistic, and legacy projects.

Mr. Chang previously served as Executive Director at Dušan Týnek Dance Theatre and as General Manager at the Joffrey Ballet Concert Group, both in New York City. In these roles, he oversaw operations, devised and executed fundraising and marketing strategies, and managed human and financial resources. Mr. Chang also worked at Rambert Dance Company. As part of a major capital campaign, he helped the company relocate to a purpose-built home on London’s Southbank, the city’s cultural district.

Prior to his career in arts management, Mr. Chang practiced as a commercial lawyer for the United Kingdom’s leading media and entertainment law firm, where he advised on a wide range of legal issues for clients, including theater producers, music record labels, and television broadcasters. As a board member of several arts organizations, Mr. Chang provides legal, strategic, and management guidance. He was elected as a trustee of Dance/USA in July 2020, where he is a member of the Finance Committee.

Mr. Chang has guest lectured in arts management at Columbia University and taught in the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Management Fellowship Program. A classically-trained pianist and singer, Mr. Chang speaks German, reads Latin, and is currently writing a book about the performance and reception of dance in the Ancient World. Mr. Chang earned a certificate in arts administration from New York University, a bachelor of arts degree and master of arts degree from Cambridge University, and a law degree from the University of London.

In making the announcement, ACG President Dr. Bruce D. Thibodeau said, “We are thrilled to welcome Geoff Chang to the ACG team. His extensive knowledge of the dance industry, diversity initiatives, and strategic leadership will provide innovative solutions that are critical to embracing opportunities for arts and culture organizations nationally and internationally.”

“I am delighted to be joining the Arts Consulting Group, a firm whose work and commitment to the cultural sector I have deeply admired for many years,” said Mr. Chang. “I look forward to working alongside the dedicated ACG team in guiding arts and culture organizations through leadership transitions, providing them with strategic planning advice, and helping them to develop sustainable and comprehensive solutions to complex and difficult challenges.”
