BOSTON — Arts Consulting Group (ACG), the leading provider of hands-on management consulting services to the arts and culture industry, today announced that Kathleen M. Welling has joined the firm as Vice President based in Washington, DC. A mission-driven leader, she excels at building valuable relationships, prudently managing finances, and developing future leaders to empower long-term organizational success. Her areas of expertise include executive transitions, partnership development, program management, communication strategies, and organizational change management.
Prior to joining ACG, Welling spent a decade at EF Education First, where she worked with schools and districts across the United States to enhance and build domestic and international educational travel programs for students and the adults who guide them. Collaborating with cultural institutions, educational partners, and community leaders on an international level, she helped re-envision EF Education First’s programs, operations, and delivery of content. While working with the National Association for Music Education and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Welling led constituent relations and spearheaded programs that created strategic alliances and partnerships to influence education policy and practice. She has coached and trained volunteer leaders across the United States in the areas of advocacy, strategic planning, program expansion, membership growth, communications, and business management. In addition, she implemented national standards for arts education and The National Coalition for Music Education in partnership with National Association of Music Merchants and The Recording Academy. As a keynote speaker, workshop leader, and facilitator, Welling has envisioned and produced hundreds of large-scale concerts, conferences, and summits around the world.
In making the announcement, ACG Senior Vice President Wyona Lynch-McWhite said, “Kathleen Welling is a wonderful new addition to the ACG team. As an innovative leader in executive leadership and strategic partnerships, we are excited for her to provide her arts, education, and service organization expertise to ACG and its clients.”
“The common thread throughout my career has been making a difference in the lives of those I serve,” said Welling. “As an educator, my personal motivation and professional mission are the same: to help people and organizations change and grow. As a nonprofit leader, I am driven by service to mission and purpose. As a business leader, I am driven by measurable results. I am excited to bring these skills (and more) to Arts Consulting Group and dedicate my energy and efforts to the power of the arts and culture and the business of excellence.”
Welling has taught vocal and general music in K-12 schools and served as Director of Music Education Outreach and Adjunct Professor at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where she nurtured future educators and led professional development for practicing educators. She currently serves on the board of trustees for the Grammy-nominated Washington National Cathedral Choral Society and has been a singing member of the group for nearly three decades. During the pandemic, she orchestrated the COVID-19 Reopening Task Force plans to navigate a safe return to rehearsals and performances. In addition, she co-chairs the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team, helping implement a new strategic plan that seeks a more equitable and connected worldwide community—through music. Welling earned a bachelor of music in education from the University of Northern Colorado and a master of music in choral music from Arizona State University.
